VGChartz's NPD April Preview (NPD release to come May 15, 2008 at ~6:30 pm est)

Jacob Mazel of VGChartz writes: "NPD will report USA sales for the four weeks ending May 3, 2008 on May 15, 2008 at 6:30 pm EST. The period will cover the first few days of the Grand Theft Auto IV launch on Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as the Mario Kart Wii launch. NPD reported five weeks of data in its March report, but with the big game releases driving demand it is unlikely that the industry had smaller sales despite the shorter time frame.

Vgchartz expects NPD to report the following:

-Wii outsold PS3 and Xbox 360 because of a huge shipment at the end of the month timed to coincide with the GTAIV and Mario Kart launches.
-DS declined a bit in weekly sales from the previous month despite the launch of a new Pokemon game.
-PS3 outsold Xbox 360 and PSP by about 50,000 units for this period.
-An interesting development for this month is the PS3. PS3 outsold Xbox 360 each week of this month – by increasingly large totals. What started as a statistical tie between Xbox 360 and PS3 on week one (<1000 units) ended up at over a 33,000 unit lead for PS3 on May 3.
-PS2 sales continue to decline.
-Grand Theft Auto IV was easily the top seller for the month. It sold about 3.7 million units despite being on sale for less than a week in this period."
