TGS 08: Microsoft Holding Off on Delisting XBLA Games


Earlier this year, Microsoft stirred up a small hubbub when they announced they would be delisting some Xbox Live Arcade titles that met certain criteria of underperformance -- slow sales, bad reviews, etc. But at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this week, Xbox Live corporate vice president John Schappert told IGN that won't be the case. Rather, Schappert said Microsoft has only ever "set parameters by which we can delist," but insisted they wouldn't move forward on limiting the size of XBLA titles offered."We have no immediate plans to act on delisting," said Schappert, who clarified that they would only begin delisting games if they felt the amount of content on the Xbox Live Marketplace became too "cumbersome." But with the upcoming launch of the New Xbox Experience (which is also overhauling the Live Marketplace to make it easier to browse), Schappert says he expects delisting games won't become necessary.So for those who feared a few obscure and infrequently downloaded games might have disappeared into the ether, you can officially rest easy.
